Optimizing Well-being and Indoor Health through Digital Twins and IoT
The WellBIM project, supported by the European Commission through the Metabuilding initiative and the Spanish Construction Technology Platform (PTEC), addresses one of the major challenges in contemporary building: improving environmental quality in indoor spaces, where the urban population spends up to 90% of its time. The solution integrates wireless IoT devices (temperature, humidity, CO₂, formaldehyde), smart cameras with AI for real-time occupancy counting, and digital models in openBIM IFC4 standard format within the POWERBIM ecosystem.
The scope of the work performed is divided into several areas:

Developed Technologies
Real-time monitoring of temperature, relative humidity, CO₂, formaldehyde, and other indoor pollutants using low-complexity, rapidly deployable wireless IoT devices.
Advanced algorithms in POWERBIM that cross-reference space volume, actual occupancy, and pollutant concentrations to calculate the
instantly updated IAQ index.
Dashboards adapted according to the technical or end-user profile, integrating real-time surveys on people’s thermal sensation through a dedicated app.
Integration of smart cameras with automatic counting technology at access points to determine exact person density and dynamically adjust air renewal needs.
Automated alert module that notifies the assigned user of recommended window opening or other corrective actions in case of deviations from set environmental variables.
Structure based on open openBIM IFC4 standards that transparently connects the sensor database, 3D digital models, and analytical reports without proprietary dependence.
